The Speaker of the Assembly of Macedonia has signed the Law on Languages. The law with Talat Xhaferi's signature is sent to the Official Gazette and after its promulgation in the Official Gazette comes immediately into force.
The Law on Languages is adopted on January 11 last year in a tense situation among MPs. After the voting in the second reading with 69 votes, Macedonian President Gjorge Ivanov did not enacted it with the justification that this law is in contravention of the Constitution of Macedonia and that it is in contravention to the Assembly's regulation.According to the procedure, the law was returned for revocation to the legislature. At third reading, received again the approval of most MPs. Despite this, Ivanov continued to not sign the Law on the Use of Languages.
