Austrian President Alexander van der Belen voiced his belief today that the European family will be full only with the full involvement of the Western Balkan countries.

He stressed that the current year will be important for the EU.

Van der Belen, at the annual reception of the diplomatic corps, said Austria is in favor of the membership of the six Western Balkan countries.

Van der Belen also noted a debate on the future of the EU, the elections for the European Parliament and the creation of a new European Commission.

"EU confidence and optimism have grown over the past year. It is important that this belief does not fail," Van der Belen said.
