The most important issues during Romania's presidency, which assumes for the first time and will last until June 30, are expected to be Britain's departure from the European Union (Brexit), Western Balkans integration into the EU and elections to the European Parliament (EP).

The Presidency of the EU Council is taken over by member states every 6 months. In the second half of 2019, Finland will head the lead.
