The government has decided to establish a joint border crossing point with Greece. Oculus News sources suggest that the Ministry of Interior and that of Economy and Finance have managed to finalize the draft agreement to be signed with the Greek state in the Summer of this year.
The main goal is to build a common border customs with nationals of both countries, who will be in the function of information exchange and procedures at the border between Greece and Albania.The common checkpoint will work both in facilitating border controls for the passing of citizens, but also for goods controlled by customs.
The sources suggest that the agreement aims to increase the co-operation in the fight against organized crime, drug trafficking and smuggling.
This is the second step that the Albanian government takes for the unification of a common border after that with Kosovo, although the pattern being followed is not the same.
Albanian Government is expected to approve an agreement with Serbia this year, which aims to help both countries join the European Union.
