The Albanian Parliament adopted unanimously yesterday the ratification of the Protocol for the accession of the North Macedonia to NATO.
The Parliamentary session is attended by the Speaker of the Parliament of North Macedonia, Talat Xhaferri."The membership of the North Macedonia is an added value in the region's progress for development of peace and stability," said Speaker of Parliament, Gramoz Ruçi, in the opening remarks of the session.
Prime Minister Edi Rama spoke of "a coinciding moment with a golden era of inter-ethnic relations between the two constituent peoples of northern Macedonia".
"This completely unique historical and political connection finds an incarnation and in the completely historical and political act of today's unanimous vote of the Albanian Parliament," Rama said.
Rama also spoke about the special role of the Albanians in Northern Macedonia.
"Without Albanians there would be no North Macedonia. If today, the situation in North Macedonia is better than ever in terms of inter-ethnic political relations, this is primarily due to the constructive role of the Albanian political leadership in that country and, without any doubt, the visionary and courageous leadership of Prime Minister Zoran Zaev, for whom I find the occasion to solemnly greet him from this session for the historic achievement of NATO membership and to congratulate him once again for the extended hand of fraternity towards the Albanians," said Rama.
The Speaker of the Parliament of North Macedonia, Talat Xhaferi, who spoke immediately after the vote of his country's NATO membership protocol, said that this act reflects the "true friendship and unconditional support of Albania.".
"Our relationships are interdependent with friendship and kinship ties," he said.
The vote on the ratification of the NATO North Atlantic Treaty Protocol came after an incident that took place in the Albanian Parliament.
DP President Lulzim Basha, after expressing his support for the membership of the Northern Macedonia, released heavy accusations against the Government of Albania and Prime Minister Rama. Meanwhile, Rama apologized to Macedonian Parliament Speaker Xhaferi for what he called "violation of the hospitality code," considering Basha as a child who "not only does not think what he says, but simply does not know what he says."
At that moment, the DP deputy, Edi Paloka, approached Rama and sprayed him with ink on his face.
Parliament Speaker Gramoz Ruçi requested the remove of MP Paloka from the hall and the session was interrupted for a few minutes. The Bureau of the Assembly suspended Paloka for ten days from the proceedings of the Assembly.
