The Albanian Historian Pëllumb Xhufi, invited on the "Arena" show by the journalist Dritan Hila, considers northern Mitrovica as a source of problems not only for Kosovo but for Serbia as well, and supports the idea ofexchange of territories among Serbia and Kosovo.
"Let's not forget that we have some of the Albanian territories that are in the East of Kosovo. Presevo, Medvegja, Bujanovci, the trend is very worrying, there is an emptying of the population because of the conditions that the Serbs created, helped by the military, administrative and police pressures. The tendency is to empty these areas, I think when it comes to territorial exchange, I hope is meant at the Kosovo border, if the issue goes to such changes. We need to be realistic at the northern border, an ethnic cleansing has occurred. Mitrovica today is a hotbed of Serbian aggression, nationalism, and Serbian criminality. North Mitrovica is the focus of problems not only for Kosovo but also for Serbia. I would agree for North Mitrovica to be given and Albanians get Presevo in return, and the other provinces," said Pellumb Xhufi.Pellumb Xhufi, commented an agreement of some years ago, the so called "Zajednica". According to Xhufi, the Zajednica within Kosovo, is a Serbska Republic in the Kosovo territory.
"An incomprehensible agreement that was rapidly made by the government of that time. It is an agreement that if you read it, there are only obligations of the Albanian side, no obligation that is fixed in the European Conventions, where the populations have to know the country where they live. None of these was just obligations. Under that agreement, a republic of Serbia is established within Kosovo. With parliament, constitutional government, open rights that the Serb community may require additional rights, "said Xhufi.
