Kosovo Prime Minister Ramush Haradinaj said that the 100 percent customs tax imposed on imports from Serbia and Bosnia and Herzegovina will remain in force for as long as he is in the post of the Prime Minister of Kosovo.
"I hope you heard me very well. You see from where I came to say this. As far as I am the Prime Minister, the tax is not removed," Haradinaj said during a visit to the memorial complex in Gllogjan.Haradinaj was insistent that the tax should not be removed without the recognition of the state of Kosovo by Serbia. Haradinaj said also that the conditionalities for Kosovo should be stopped.
"If we start to step back, then once they ask for the tariffs to be removed, tomorrow they may ask for Trepça to be removed, the Army removed, or something else removed", Haradinaj said.
The head of the executive also spoke about coalition government reports, saying that all the members of the coalition has been agreed to set the 100 percent tax on products originating from Serbia and Bosnia and Herzegovina.
"I also seek support from political partners, although we may have different opinions. One thing is true when we made the tax decision, we were unanimous, so each one said yes..."said the Prime Minister Haradinaj.
Prime Minister Haradinaj is opposing the US and European Union bid to suspend tariffs on Serbian goods.
On the other hand, the governing coalition partner, the Democratic Party of Kosovo, through its chairman, Kadri Veseli, has proposed the suspension of the tariff for a 120-day period.
