Ukraine's security service announced that has seized a drug delivery from South America worth of about $ 51 million.
Police authorities said they discovered 257 kilograms of cocaine hidden in "banana boxes" during an inspection on a South American cargo ship that dumped at the Black Sea port of Odessa.The statement did not identify exactly the country of origin of the ship. "A quick analysis identified that it was cocaine," the Security Service said in a statement on March 21.
"The total drug weight is 257 kilograms and its estimated cost on the black market is more than $ 51 million," the statement said.
The cocaine was destined to the European market, the Ukrainian authorities said further, adding that they have already opened a large-scale drug smuggling investigation.
It was also announced that an investigation has been initiated to identify potential suspects in this case.
