The US senior military officials have expressed hope that Washington will find a way of resolving divisions with Turkey in regards to Ankara's decision to buy the Russian missile defense system. However, according to US Army Chief of Staff Joseph Dunford, "this is a difficult matter".
The American general said the Pentagon might soon suspend the preparations for F-35 military aircraft shipment in Turkey. Earlier, he also headed the US military forces in Europe, the General Curtis Scaparrotti said he would recommend that the United States to not sell to Turkey fighter planes if, in advance, Ankara does not backs from plans to buy Russia's missile defense system."My best military advice would be that we will not work with an ally that is working with Russian systems," US Army General Curtis Scaparrotti said during a hearing of the Senate Armed Services Committee.
Reccep Tayyip Erdogan said earlier he plans to buy the Russian system despite the North Atlantic Alliance's objection that he can not integrate into NATO's defense system. Last month, Turkish Foreign Minister Mevlut Cavusoglu, said that the agreement on buying the Russian system is already done.
