The Court in New Delhi approved the extradition request made by the Prosecution for the two Indian brothers Nitin Sandesara and Chetankumar Sandesara. They are charged with money laundering at $ 725 million.

According to the Indian media, the request was addressed to the Albanian authorities, as the two brothers have long received Albanian citizenship. In February, the Court ruled that Nitin Sandesara and Chetankumar Sandesara would appear at the Bailiff's Office within 15 days.

The two Sandesara brothers were owners of the Sterling Biotech pharmaceutical company. Throughout 2008-2011, they have received over $ 725 million in loans from several state-owned banks in India, money that did not go to Sterling's account but disappeared through a network of 300 offshore companies raised by the brothers. The scandal broke out in January last year when India's economic crime agency arrested the director of Andra Bank, the largest bank who had loaned the loans to the Sandesara brothers.

At the same time, Indian authorities blocked the properties of Sterling Biotech, which entered into the bankruptcy process. But the two Sandersar brothers escaped from India. While they are wanted by the Indian authorities, Nitin Sandesara and Chetankumar Sandesara have opened legitimate businesses in Albania.

While the presidency has clarified the procedure for providing Albanian passports to two Indian businessmen declared wanted for money laundering charges in their home country - India.

The two Indian businessmen Nitin Jayantilal Sandesara and Chetankumar Jayantilal Sandesara were equipped with Albanian passports in February 2018 by the President Ilir Meta.

The President Meta clarified the procedure for granting Albanian citizenship to the two Indians through his spokesman Tedi Blushi.

The President says have been implemented all the procedures and the citizenship for the two Indians has been provided on the proposal of the Minister of Tourism and the Environment.
