The Foreign Direct Investments that entered in the Albanian economy in the fourth quarter of the year, amounted to 264 million euros, according to statistics published by the Bank of Albania (BoA).
Compared to the same period of last year, the investments increased by 19%, following the decline recorded in the previous two quarters and their high growth of 53% in the first three months of the year, which came as a result of some hard work carried out by the TAP pipeline.As a result of the high performance of the first and the fourth quarter, for 2018, the foreign investment amounted to 1 billion euros, an increase of about 13% compared to the same period of the previous year, marking a record level. Energy investment accounts the major share of investment inflows entering the country by about 60%. Only in energy the investment stock grew by 122m euros in the third quarter of 2018 and € 590 million for the whole year as a result of investments by TAP and HEC Devolli gas pipeline, according to BoA statistics.
For about four years, the Foreign Direct Investment remained at high levels, due to two major energy projects, hydropower works on the Devoll River by Statkraft and the TAP pipeline. Together, both investments account for about 2 billion euros, of which 1.5 billion euros are for the TAP pipeline, according to official sources.
