Ilir Meta |
The Albanian President Ilir Meta stated that he is ready to sacrifice the his mandate of President, even his life, same as Salvador Alende, in order to prevent the instasllation of a junta that could turn Albania back 30 years.
Meta called on all to not sacrifice Albania for their chairs or their personal ambitions, emphasizing that he is ready to give the example first."Although I have no responsibility for this situation that has been created, although I have been making every effort, for almost two years, to prevent such a situation and crisis, I am again ready to sacrifice in the name of a political solution that reshapes the constitutional, institutional, political and democratic normality of the country and guarantees quick progress towards the opening of negotiations with the European Union. I am ready for both extremes since my mandate as President, as I have been assured that the country has a principled and constitutional political solution that leads to it, to the sacrifice of my life, such as Salvador Alende, to stop installation of a junta that could turn Albania 30 years back", said Meta in Pogradec.
President Meta stressed several times that he had warned of the deep crisis in the country and that his attempts to prevent it is undermined.
"This is of what can I say to you, to Mr. Rama, as the leader of the majority in Parliament, to Mr. Basha, as the leader of the Opposition, but also to all Albanian citizens, Socialists, Democrats or without parties who have the concern of the country's stability and want security, who want the opening of negotiations that want to move forward towards EU membership: President Ilir Meta is very much aware of the roots of this crisis. He has warned the local and international actors long before that the situation may degenerate into unpredictability." Meta added.
"I have to point out that the constitutional and institutional crisis is not new and I have given reasons and arguments even earlier. Not long ago, we have no Constitutional Court and the whole judicial system is paralyzed, but this has undermined the efforts and initiatives; the President's special interest in preventing the creation of this crisis by certain actors. So there is a crisis that, in my assessment, is deliberate and has seriously jeopardized the constitutional order of the Republic of Albania, as well as the rights of citizens and certain interest groups," he emphasized
Meta considered the collective bailout of the mandates of opposition MPs unacceptable.
"Now the crisis has deepened further, following an unprecedented action by the Albanian opposition, which is an inadmissible and reprehensible act on my part, which has seriously deepened the crisis of representation in the Albanian Parliament as the main representative institution of the Republic in my opinion, today the Albanian Parliament has 82 lawful MPs, including those 3 opposition MPs who refused to burn their mandates according to the political decision of the respective parties. Any other number beyond this not only deepens the crisis of representation, but it is also consistent on all plans, as well as in the law, political, moral and constitutional framework," said Meta.
The head of the Albanian state stressed also that completing the parliament with other deputies this conceals the crisis and undermines the opening of negotiations.
"One million citizens who have reached the age of becoming a MP can be summoned in our country, who are not afraid to complete the decriminalization form to vote in the Parliament on the basis of reforms and European integration, but this should ensure all which does not hide this deep crisis of representation nor does it guarantee, but, on the contrary, undermines the opening of negotiations with the European Union. There can be no solution to this crisis either ultimately or through rhetoric that incites violent actions or with police or financial methods, but only with a rapid, serious and accountable political dialogue that guarantees the restoration of political life in normality, respecting the constitution..." he said.
