Not only the Socialist Party but also other political forces have come up against the opposition's decision to give up the mandates. In a joint statement, signed by 26 political parties, among which the Socialist Party ranks first, it is noted that with the abandonment of the Parliament by the opposition, the national interests are undermined.
Full statement:The Political parties gathered at a consultation table, summoned by the Socialist Party: - analyzing the political situation in the country, - judging the abandonment of the Albanian Parliament by a part of PD and SMI deputies, - considering the response and support of the international community, - by unreservedly encouraging the opening of Albania's EU membership negotiations, - supporting with all its energies the state's functionality and social normality, - insisting on the implementation of the Justice Reform, the rule of law and the fight against corruption, - emphasizing the political importance of the local elections of June 30 this year,
WE DECLARE THAT: 1. The abandonment of the Temple of Institutional Democracy by a group of DP and SMI members aims to severely damage our national and strategic interests in favor of the narrow interests of personal career and party accounts.
2. The rhetoric and the use of violence by the DP and the SMI for political purposes tends to destabilize the country and the social chaos, turning us many years back in the past with serious events of '97 and '98.
3. We support the proposed changes to the Electoral Code and the deepening of these changes to ensure full depoliticization of the entire Electoral Administration, the participation of immigrants in electoral processes and the use of electronic ballot counting technology in a pilot project since the local elections of June 30.
4. We Engage in building a common platform for a functional and winning coalition of local government bodies.
5. We call upon the political parties of the entire pluralist spectrum instead of respecting the registration deadlines in the CEC according to the Electoral Code.
