Alberto Zaccheroni favorite as the Albanian National team coach

Alberto Zaccheroni favorite as the Albanian National team coach

In all probability, Alberto Zaccheroni will be the new Albanian national coach, as reported by the sports media in Albania.

The former UAE coach (with whom he reached the semi-final in the last Asian Cup) is currently without a team and is considering whether to accept the offer of the Albanian Federation.

The president of the FSHF, Armand Duka, is in fact in these hours in Bologna just to deal with Zaccheroni: the offer is a 1 + 1 contract, which could then lead the technician from Romagna to the leadership of Albania also for the qualifying campaign for the next world championships.

The other nominations, for the moment set aside, are those of Edi Reja (who was initially the favorite), Roberto Donadoni, Besnik Hasi and Luigi De Canio.

Zaccheroni's career

Alberto Zaccheroni - after years of hard work on the benches of Cesenatico, Riccione, Boca San Lazzaro, Venice, Bologna and Cosenza - his career took off in the 1997-1998 season, when he brought Udinese (dragged by Oliver Bierhoff's 27 goals) even to third place.

The following year he ends up on the Milan bench where he wins the championship on the first attempt in the 98-99 season. However, this remain the only great joy of his Rossoneri adventure that will end in 2001.

In the 2001-2002 season he takes over after a few days of championship with the team in third place with Dino Zoff as head of Lazio. After the heavy defeat in the derby against Roma (1-5), the president Sergio Cragnotti at the end of the season did not confirmed him as the Lazio coach, replacing him with Roberto Mancini.

His subsequent adventures on the bench are like a 'ferryman' as both Inter and Juventus called him without being confirmed at the end of the season.

A small exception, however, is the adventure on the Turin bench - between Inter and Juventus - where he is called at the beginning of the season (even if only two days after the start of the championship) and then he is exonerated in February of the following year.

One of his unforgettable experiences is certainly the one on the bench of the Japanese national team, with which he won the 2011 Asian Cup and participated in the world championships in Brazil in 2014. In 2016 he becomes the coach of the Chinese team of Beijing Guoan, an adventure that lasts only 10 games.

After taking a break - during which he took on the role of technical commentator for Italy's RAI matches - he returns to the bench in 2017 with the United Arab Emirates.
