"I will encourage Bulgaria on its path to pursuing reforms to ensure the rule of law and the fight against corruption," said German President Frank-Walter Steinmeier at a meeting held in Sofia with his Bulgarian counterpart Rumen Radev.
He stressed that Bulgaria is a stabilizing factor of cooperation within the EU. According to him, Germany is interested in strengthening political, cultural and economic relations between the two countries. Germany supports the construction of a factory that will produce Volkswagen brand cars in Bulgaria, the German President said."The successful Bulgarian-German economic partnership is one more reason to believe that Bulgaria is ready and deserves to have a strategic investor with a closed production cycle, President Radev said.
German President Steinmeier also met with Prime Minister Boyko Borisov, where the topic of their conversation was the security issue.
Boyko Borisov stressed that this country is successfully fulfilling its commitments regarding the protection of the EU's external border. He showed that a viable European mechanism was needed to answer questions about migration.
