Kosovo and Turkey cooperation agreement in defense

The Kosovo and Turkish Defense Ministers signed a cooperation agreement in the field of defense in Pristina. According to a notification from the Kosovo Ministry of Defense, the agreement foresees co-operation between the two institutions in areas of common interest. Kosovo Defense Minister Rrustem Berisha and Turkey's Hulusi Akar confirmed the biggest military co-operation between the two countries, the announcement says.

Turkish Minister also met with Kosovo Prime Minister Ramush Haradinaj. According to a statement from the Prime Minister's Office, the meeting discussed bilateral relations and improved co-operation between the two countries.

The Turkish minister has not spoken after the meetings.

But the Anatolian news agency reported that Akar has said that "the Feto obstacle should be removed as soon as possible".

Fet is the organization of the Muslim cleric, Fetullah Gülen, whom Turkey accuses of terrorism and attempted coup in 2016.

On March 29, 2018, at the request of the Turkish authorities, the security forces in Kosovo had arrested and deported to Turkey six Turkish citizens, five of whom were employees at the "Mehmet Akif" school, while the sixth was a doctor.

Their deportation is said to have been done through a coordinated action between intelligence services from Turkey and Kosovo.

Ankara suspects that they are members of the Hizmet organization of Turkish religious leader Fetullah Gulen. Turkish authorities blame Gulen for a coup attempt in Turkey in 2016.

Minister Akar was on Wednesday in Skopje, North Macedonia, where he demanded that his country's take concrete measures against persons associated with this organization.
