 The Black Vulture (Aegypius monachus) finally reappeared in Albania, after nearly 110 years where two individuals of this type equipped with satellite trackers have visited the "country of the eagles".

Initially, on March 29 in Albania passes "Chrysoula", a young individual marked in November 2017 in the framework of the project "The preservation of the Black Vulture and the Vulture in the cross-border area of ​​the Rhodope Mountains". "Chrysoula" entered from the Bilisht, crossed over Ostrovica and Memaliaj, approached the city of Vlora and went down to the south through the Vlora river until he passed to Greece.

A few days later, on April 23, 2019, "Riga" appeared in Albania, another Black Vulture, released in 2018, in the frame of the project "The Reversionary of the Black Vulture", appears in Albania. Riga came from Konica, Greece, went through Përmet in the Vjosa Valley, crossed the Eastern part of Albani, to Kukës and then to Prizren (Kosovo), stayed in Uvac, Serbia and returned again to Kotel, Bulgaria.

The efforts for the preservation of the Black Vulture have increased significantly across the Balkans, including Albania.

It was thought this birds had been vanished more than a century ago, but today are emerging again. But their habitat is still difficult.
