The living cost in the capital of Albania has increased in 2019 compared to other countries in the region. Living in Tirana is already as expensive as in Belgrade and a bit cheaper than Podgorica. Data is obtained from the Expatistan.com portal, which compares living costs between different cities for individuals moving for employment reasons in other countries. To determine the cost of living, the portal has categorized into 5 groups: food, housing, clothing, transportation, personal care and entertainment.
By 2019, Podgorica remains the most expensive city in the region. Compared to Belgrade and Tirana, the capital of Montenegro is only 2% more expensive. There it costs more food, shelter and transportation.Unlike 2018, Tirana is as expensive as Belgrade, where the food, shelter and transportation are also costly.
By 2019, Albania is more expensive than Sarajevo, where a year earlier, THE living for foreigners moving there was more expensive than Tirana. The difference in living costs compared to Tirana is more pronounced in Skopje and Pristina. Skopje is about 11% cheaper than Tirana. According to the portal there is more expensive the transportation (about 3% more expensive) and the entertainment, about 28% more expensive.
Pristina continues to be the cheapest country in the Western Balkans. All categories are cheaper than in Tirana. In total the livelihood there costs 30% cheaper thann Tirana.
Tirana is the most expensive city in the region for clothing and personal care.
Compared to Belgrade and Skopje, the clothing cost 2 and 3% more in Tirana. Compared with Podgorica they are 7% more expensive, while with Sarajevo about 9%. Pristina remains the cheapest in terms of clothing. In relation to Tirana, the difference is great, since in order to get dressed there, costs about 75% cheaper. Even for personal care, which includes doctor's visit fees, medication prices, and personal product prices, Tirana is the most expensive (see table below).
