Russia will begin exporting to Turkey S-400 missile defense systems, beginning in July, a Russian official said.
Alexander Mikheev, head of Russia's state-owned arms exporter Rosoboronexport, said "Everything has already been discussed and agreed," according to the Interfax news agency. The United States has threatened to impose sanctions if Turkey signs the agreement with Russia on importing the S-400 anti-missile system.
Ankara has said that buying this system should not be a cause for sanctions, because Turkey is not Washington's rival and remains committed to NATO's alliance.
