Turkish historian Talha Uğurluel, who offended Skanderbeg risks 15 years in jail

 Talha Uğurluel arrested

The Turkish historian Talha Uğurluel in 2016 had offended the Albanian National Hero Gjergj Kastriot - Skanderbeg, causing great anger among Albanians, but today he risks to be sentenced to 15 years in prison on charges of Gülen's movement, the main enemy of Erdogan, as Turkish media say.

The Turkish government accuses Gülen's move of having organized a failed coup on July 15, 2016 and tagging it as a terrorist organization, though the movement denies strongly its involvement in the coup attempt or any terrorist activity.

Uğurluel appeared at the last hearing of his trial in Istanbul at the High Criminal Court in which he faces a prison sentence between 7 and 15 years on the charge of membership in a terrorist organization.

In his defense, the historian, who is often used to go to Gülen's television stations - now closed - said he has no connection with the Gülen movement, although he has worked at Kaynak Holding University - related with Gülen and Fatih University.
