US gifts 37 modern military armored vehicles to Albania

The United States donated today 37 armored and resistant to mines vevicles to Albania's Armed Forces today. The vehicles of the brand International MaxxPro MRAP (Mine Resistant Ambush Protected), have a crew of 3-7 soldiers. They are part of a support package for the Albanian Army, with a total value of $ 12 million, launched since 2017. So far, the Albanian armed forces have 98 armored vehicles in use.

HMMWV 1114, which have a maximum speed of 125 km / h, a 1 3 1 rifle carrier capacity, weigh 6 tons and have 443 km of autonomy. Armored vehicles are equipped with a system of holding heavy machine guns and light machine guns as well as grenade launchers.

"This new armed ability will enhance Albania's internal defense, strengthen the southern side of NATO, and provide crucial combat power to NATO that can be deployed to support global operations. This is another example of how Albania is growing as a regional leader in the Balkans. Under the excellent direction of Minister Xhaçka and the General Kollcak, the communication and cooperation between our military forces has never been stronger as the distribution of these vehicles marks the end of a phase of our cooperation," said the US representative, Leyla Moses-Ones, during the donation ceremony.

"This package translates into more capacity, more joint commitments and certainly more security for both our country and the alliance. New armaments under the NATO standard, the new armored HMMVO and MRAP armored vehicle package being added to the Albanian Forces equipment inventory, are changing the daily reality of our military's work and increasing the day-to-day performance during the exercise of their duties in the participating operations. These vehicles will enable the enhancement of the spectrum of tasks and mission of our troops and will increase personnel safety, especially against improvised mines and explosive devices, which is now considered as one of the most present threats to the environment operation,"  Xhaçka said.
