The Albanian state is working to repatriate ISIS fighter family members from Iraqi and Syria camps. Albanian institutions have been coordinating for months to withdraw from the camps like "Al Hol" the women and children of the Albanians who fought under the black flag of ISIS.
In an interview to Agron Sojati, the National Coordinator of the Center Against Violent Extremism, says the government is working with seriousness and accountability in co-operation with partners to turn citizens out of conflict zones."Albania takes all legal, political, economic and social responsibilities to handle it properly within the legal framework. The theme is sensitive and delicate, because we are talking about the age that the law or penalties are executed but also for different categories who, outside of their will, have been at a moment of life in spaces that in fact should not be and against the will of the family or community.
We are cautious about how the institutions should behave. We have not considered it merely and only in a possible surprise if someone comes or if we ask for it.
Over 6 months there is an inter-institutional plan, already adopted, where all institutions such as the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, the Interior and the Defense of Social Affairs and Education take responsibilities have identified the persons and the resources.
Actually, the Albanian government is addressing this problem, all the specifics related to their communication or transportation and their legal treatment, these are issues that will be solved at the moment when we are faced and the persons we may have. We are not talking about an interene where we are waiting online tickets and giving the times when they return. Some institutions are in the talks and there is also a role of the mediating partners, which makes it unclear that we say a certain date for the return of these persons." Sojati said.
Asked about the number of Albanians who have been identified in camps in Syria and Iraq, Sojati gives some figures of children, women and the elderly by avoiding the real numbers of men who fought with ISIS. This information, according to him, is sensitive to the public.
"At least we have 30 women, 16 children and 6 elderly people. As for the number of men there is a statistic and other report that we expect to communicate with the respective authorities."
The women and men returned from Syria will be investigated after returning to Albania for involvement in terrorist groups and participation in combat conflicts in military and paramilitary structures.
"The court applies penalties for these legal grounds will treat any individual who has returned. It is definitely in the quality of the responsible structures that require information to clearly determine which is the case law case by case of every individual regardless of age and gender to ensure the maximum security for citizens and to respect human rights," concluded Sojati.
