The Russian Embassy in Serbia demanded on Tuesday from Kosovo to immediately release the Russian citizen working on the United Nations mission in Kosovo.

The Russian citizen was arrested in a Serb-populated municipality in northern Kosovo during a police operation there. "We demand the immediate release of the Russian citizen and that the perpetrators of this flagrant incident must be accountable", the embassy said.

The Russian arrested today in North Kosovo is known as 'Mihal' by the residents and by the Serbian authorities in Belgrade.

Mikhail Krasnoshchekov was camouflaged as a diplomat in the North and claimed to work as a UNMIK administration employee in that part of the country.

But it is learned that while the police were conducting raids in the North, this person was able to deter them.

While the police have managed to identify him and carry out his arrest today.

The news of his arrest has even been confirmed by Kosovo President Hashim Thaci.
