Rama: 10 years in prison for abusers of food safety standards
 

 Those persons who violate food safety and change the food expiration date will be sentenced up to 10 years in prison.

This is of what said today the Prime Minister Edi Rama, at the meeting of the Socialist Party's parliamentary group.

The head of the government, referring to the amendment of some articles in the Criminal Code on Food Safety, said that "food security is a great challenge for us, for our society, our governing majority, and our government."

"The importing, producing, maintaining for sale, selling or placing in circulation in some way of foodstuffs, beverages, other food stuffs, medicines and the introduction into production of chemicals and materials and additives in processing and production of food and beverages articles will be sentenced to prison...", - underlined Rama.

The head of the government stated that when this crime was committed in cooperation more than once or when this offense results to be threatened or damaged the public health the imprisonment will be up to 10 years.

According to him, the fraud with food products is a criminal offense.
