This month with start the work for the deepening of the basin and the access channel of the port of Durres. This project is enabled after 14 years and is funded by the Port Authority (PA) itself, with a value of 8.6 million euros (excluding VAT).
The project, to be implemented by 2019, will significantly improve the processing capacities in the country's largest port, turning it into a competitive harbor with the ports in the region.
The depth predicted at the end of the project reaches 10.4 meters, from the current depth of 7.5 meters.
The deepening will enable ships that carry up to 1000 TEU containers to enter the port , while currently they bring up to 600 in total.
On Durrës berths after the invervention, may also be anchored vessels with capacity up to
20,000 tons, in length up to 174 meters and in width up to 26 meters.
