The constant rainfall during the last two months have brought Albania out of the energy crisis. The latest KESH data show that the water quota in the Fierza lake has reached 289 meters above sea level, or just 7 meters near the peak point.
This happened at a time when just two months ago the water level at Fierza was less than 270 meters above sea level or close to the critical point where the hydropower plant is not capable of producing energy.
The increase of the hydro reserve in the Drin river cascade has significantly reduced the fiscal risk that the crisis could have done on the state budget. In the first five months of the year, the Distribution Operator spent about € 100 million to buy energy from imports. This high bill turned into a threat to the state's finances, as if the crisis were about to continue then the government would be forced to give money from taxes to guarantee the country's energy supply.

Sources from the company say the domestic production can withstand all the demand without import. But two OSHE and KESH companies have agreed to maintain a low import rate in June, in order to maintain the hydro reserve for the Summer months, particularly for July, where the stock market's energy price rises substantially.
