The US Defense Secretary Patrick Shanahan and his Turkish counterpart, Hulusi Akar, remain engaged in dialogue, and may meet next week during NATO's Brussels meeting, said the NATO's Supreme Allied Commander in Europe, Tod Wolters.

The General Wolters said tha the military relations between the United States and NATO remain "absolutely positive" despite the disagreements on Turkey's military co-operation with Russia.

Washington has said will cancel Turkey's supply of F-35 fighter jets if the latter continues to buy the Russian system. According to the US administration, the Russian system poses a threat to US airplanes.

However, Turkey has so far given signals that it will continue with the purchase. Turkey's President Reccep Tayip Erdogan has said that the first part of the Russian system will arrive in Turkey in July.

The United States has warned sanctions against Turkey, meanwhile Ankara has claimed it will respond to these sanctions.
