The ancient monument of the Acropolis in Athens is temporarily closed to visitors due to high temperatures recorded in the Greek capital.

The most famous archeological pearl in Greece today will be closed to visitors from 13 to 17 o'clock due to the temperatures of 36 degrees Celsius, although the feeling is that the thermometer displays up to 40 degrees.

The meteorologists also warn hot weather even on Friday as authorities announce that the Acropolis will be closed again if the temperature exceeds 36 degrees.

In 1987, the most famous monument of ancient Greece was placed on the list of UNESCO World Heritage sites in Europe as one of the most important monuments of European cultural heritage. According to official records, last year, the Acropolis was visited by 3.15 million people.
