Albanian Parliament |
The commission will have 9 members, 5 from the ruling party, and 4 from the new parliamentary opposition, which took place in the Assembly, as the opposition parties and their right-wing allies abandoned their mandates and the people who voted for them.
This initiative of the Socialist Party for the dismissal of the president comes after the latter has abolished the presidential decree several weeks ago to set the date of local elections in Albania for June 30th and said that elections in the "There will be no elections in the Republic of Albania without the president's decree."
He made that decision after the opposition in Albania has abandoned the mandates in the Assembly, and has been protesting for several months, demanding the removal of the Government led by Edi Rama.
However, the Socialist Party went almost alone in the local elections, wherein 31 out of the 61 municipalities has completed without any opposition candidate, while in the other 30 municipalities completed against some independent candidates or small party candidates.
The Central Election Commission has announced that turnout across the country was 21.6%.
So far, the government and the opposition have not found a common way to dialogue to resolve this political crisis.
Albania, apart from the political crisis between the parties and institutions, has been submerged in a constitutional crisis with the absence of the Constitutional Court.
The Constitutional Court in the country remained out of function and temporarily closed, as out of its nine members, three have resigned or have finished their mandates, four have been dismissed by the vetting process (verification or detailed control for public officials) and only two remained.
The constitutional validity of the June 30 voting, but also the president's decision to annul them, can only be verified after the creation of the Constitutional Court.
