WHO congratulates the Albanian Government on the Anti Smoking Law

WHO has commended the Albanian Government for the steps taken to stop smoking and protect the health from all types of tobacco products.

The WHO Office for Albania, through its head dr. Raúl Gonzáles, has sent a letter of appreciation to the Minister of Health and Social Protection, Ogerta Manastirliu, for the amendments approved on Thursday, at the last session of the Albanian Parliament, on the Law "On the Protection of Health from Tobacco Products".

"The WHO commends the Government of Albania for the steps taken to advance the implementation of the Tobacco Control Convention, setting as a priority the health of the Albanian citizens, over other interests," said the letter addressed to Minister Manastirliu.

In line with the WHO Framework Convention Conventions on Tobacco Control, the WHO Regional Office for Europe and WHO Office in Albania supports the Albanian government for the steps taken. "We strongly support you for the elimination of the health, social, economic and environmental damages that tobacco causes on people and societies. I assure you that WHO will always be in the public interest, for the effective implementation of all the legal measures that put health in front of everything," reads the letter addressed to Minister Manastirliu.
