The Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development announces that, besides the bio-products that are dominant in Albania such as the aromatic and medicinal plants, the chestnuts, which for many years have been exported to some European countries for their bio-qualities, or strawberries and saffron, exist also other bio-certified crops such as vineyards, vegetables and forest fruits.
According to the Ministry of Agriculture, this year, about 3.2 hectares of pear, 13.3 hectares of olive trees (36 hectares are bio-certified) and 207 hectares of strawberries are still being approved for bioproduction and are still in the process of verification.
In total, the area planted with organic bio-products across the country has been up to 62% at the end of 2018.
The conditions for the development of organic farming vary widely among the EU and Albania. Policy recommendations on how to promote complementary and sustainable development of organic farming are needed to ensure the sustainable development of organic farming.
According to experts in Albania, the government is orienting the policies to promote the development of organic farming.
Organic farming in Albania has experienced a significant increase in recent years, with a growing register of organic farms. Organic farming is promoted on the basis of the multiple benefits it offers: healthier food, improved agricultural environment and a contribution to the rural economy.
