For the next two years, Iowa will be the new home for 28 young girls and women from Kosovo. They traveled to the US to study various aspects of energy at Des Moines Community College. They won scholarships awarded by the Millennium Foundation, funded by US government funds. The value of the investment in a project called "Women in Energy" reaches to about $ 1 million. This is seen as deepening cooperation between Iowa and Kosovo. What began as a military partnership has now expanded to many other areas.

After two years Kosovo will add 28 experts in the field of energy.

This is the number of young women and girls from Kosovo who started their studies at a community college in Des Moines, Iowa, as VOA reports.

The beneficiaries of the program say the goal is to bring the experience gained from studying in the US to Kosovo.

“The energy we use the most in Kosovo - around 97 percent - comes from the coal, which damages greatly our environment. The main reason I chose renewable energy is because I contribute to our environment, ”Doruntina Shala, a scholarship recipient, told Voice of America.

"What I like most about DMACC is the access to practice, the labs and the system they have here. I hope that after two years of studying here I will be able to contribute to the community but also to the country when I return especially to the solar energy sector, ”said Fjolla Fazliu, a scholarship recipient.

Career in a field dominated by men is not an easy journey, say students from Kosovo.
