Erion Veliaj speaking to journalists at Unit 10, Tirana |
To reduce the demand flow in the capital's kindergartens and public gardens, Tirana Municipality is working to construct childcare facilities near large private companies. Whereas in the administration it is foreseen to add a room for a doctor, a psychologist, as well as a room for mothers of latants.
"This year we will bring an innovation: As required by law and as is the tradition in all EU countries, companies with a fixed number of employees, over 100 employees, such as telecommunications companies, banks, to begin to install in their premises kindergartens. It's a way to make sure the working parent is very close to where his or her child is raised, but also to reduce the traffic of the city."
Mayor Erion Veliaj, while inspecting the works at a kindergarten near Unit 10, said that the improvement of the conditions in preschools has significantly increased the parents' requests for their attendance.
"We have had a tremendous influx in Tirana's kindergartens, perhaps receiving the biggest compliment when people make friends to even register their child to nurseries and gardens. The belief that these kindergartens and public nurseries have such a high quality should be rewarded with investment. In places like this space in the heart of Tirana, where also the expropriation is expensive, where free land is scarce, we are trying to make the most of it; that is, we have doubled the capacity of the nursery, adding 4 more groups and we will strive to expand the accommodation, add groups or even playgrounds throughout the territory, where there is room for new spaces, as we will also construct a playground here too."
