German Ambassador to Belgrade, Thomas Schieb: Kosovo is the Condition for Serbia's Integration

The format of the Kosovo-Serbia dialogue will not change: it will take place with the mediation of the European Union. This was stated by the German ambassador to Belgrade, Thomas Schieb. However, in a media interview in Belgrade, the German diplomat has hinted that Brussels is considering appointing a special mediator.

Schieb praised his country's relations with Serbia as good, but at the same time confirmed that there were differences in the Kosovo issue. Speaking to pro-government television "PRVA", he said that Germany is committed to normalizing relations between Belgrade and Pristina.

According to him, resolving the Kosovo issue is a condition for Serbia to become a member of the European Union. Expressing hope that the dialogue will be unblocked after the October 6 elections in Kosovo, even with the removal of the tariffs on Serbian goods, set by the Haradinaj government, Germany's ambassador has spoken even if his country, but also France, have strategies to advance further the disrupted negotiations.

"Germany and France continue to support the dialogue process, but the format will be the same: Belgrade and Pristina are negotiating with the mediation of the European Union and the new representative Borrell. We are wondering if there will be any special envoys who will be in charge of the dialogue process. We will not create a new format, but we would like to support the dialogue in the hope that we will have some movement forward,” the German ambassador to Belgrade said in a statement issued by TV Klan Macedonia.

Meanwhile, Serbia's Foreign Minister Ivica Dacic told state television on Wednesday that a major conflict between the State Department and the US Congress has erupted with the main protagonists the Chief Secretary Mike Pompeo and Congressman Eliot Engel due to Kosovo.
