Giuseppe Conte: reconsideration of negotiations for Albania and North Macedonia in November

 Italian Prime Minister Giuseppe Conte is expected to propose to the European Union to re-consider the opening of negotiations for Albania and North Macedonia in November. Italy put the enlargement at the top of the agenda at the Summit the day before but without success.

However, Prime Minister Conte considered the French veto to be a historic mistake for the two Balkan countries and warned that the decision would open the way for other actors to increase influence in the region, like Russia, Turkey or China.

Besides France, it was the Netherlands and Denmark that opposed the opening of negotiations with our country.
