A 9-month-old baby died in a refugee camp in Greece due to dehydration

"We have confirmed today from the local hospital in Lesbos a nine-month-old baby died a few days ago from severe dehydration in Greece's Moria camp,” the humanitarian group of UNHCR said in a Twitter post.

The humanitarian group said the children are dying in Greece due to dire living conditions and lack of proper care.

"About 15,000 people have been stranded in Moria, including 5,000 minors," the group urged Greece and the European Union to take immediate action.

According to the UN High Commissioner for Refugees (UNHCR), at least 1,000 migrants have died this year in the Mediterranean.

"About 77,400 irregular migrants arrived in Europe crossing the Mediterranean in 2019, out of which 45,600 arrived in Greece, more than in Spain, Italy, Malta and the Greek Cypriot administration," the UNHCR said.

The International Organization for Migration (IOM) has said at least 15,000 refugees have lost their lives in Mediterranean waters since 2014.
