The United States of America called on Albania to decide to who would trust the 5G network, which must be rank with NATO partners or anyone else.
US General James Jones said Albania should be cautious by being an active member of the North Atlantic Alliance (NATO).
General Jones pointed out that China with its high-tech offering including the 5G has a powerful loop in its hands.
Speaking at the Tirana conference on "NATO Security Challenges Versus Technology", General Jones added that Albania should be vigilant:
“Albania is preparing to update its networks to 5G next year. It is imperative that its leaders decide to whom they will trust. Albania must be confident of joining those set by NATO. China sees the use of its "5G" devices as intelligent trading platforms at the heart of nation systems around the world. All these technologies and digital developments that China has, give to it a very powerful loop."
He added that Russia, a declining power, is more of a strategic concern than anything else and blames Vladimir Putin for that.
"With China's model and behavior, the precedent informs us that 5G capabilities will be used to steal intellectual property, monitor and control the populations of countries, and control global data as much as possible. The US, on the other hand, views the 5G model as a platform to empower, protect individual privacy, intellectual property and preserve national secrets while at the same time enabling development,” the US general said.
US Deputy Ambassador Leyla Moses-Ones stressed that 5G technology is a complex and critical infrastructure.
