Although Washington is Germany's closest ally, public trust in the US has suffered a significant blow since Donald Trump's time, according to a YouGov poll the Germans have been asked, who is more dangerous - North Korean dictator Kim Jong Un, Chinese President Xi Jinping, Iran's supreme leader, Ayatollah Khomenei, or US President Donald Trump? 41% of respondents responded that Donald Trump is more dangerous than other leaders.
In the second place, they rank the North Korean dictator Kim, 17% see him as dangerous to peace. Then comes Putin and Khomenei with 8%. China's President Xi is at the bottom of the list with 7%. More than 2000 people took part in the YouGov poll of the German news agency.
A similar You Gov poll was conducted last July, with 48% of Germans holding Trump more dangerous than Kim and Putin. This poll did not include the leaders of Iran and China.
Macron enjoys more confidence than Merkel
Another poll by the media group Funke Mediengruppe conducted by the Kantar Institute reveals that Germans trust the French President Emmanuel Macron more than Chancellor Merkel. 53% of respondents said that their trust in Merkel was "approximately high", 44% had "little confidence" in Merkel. While for President Macron 57% respond positively, only 32% rate him negatively.
Another five heads of the state received negative reviews. The winner of the elections in Austria, Sebastian Kurz, to whom 33% of Germans have more or less confidence and 41% have little confidence. Fourth is Putin, who enjoys better polling values (26% trust 67% very little confidence) even than British Prime Minister Boris Johnson (12 versus 71%) and Turkish President Erdogan. Even in this poll the US president, Trump ranks last. 6% trust him very much, while 89% of those polled have very little confidence, categorizing Trump as the least trusted world leader.
