The New York City Council member Mark Gjonaj said from Tirana that "Diaspora is the treasure of Albania".
He made these comments in an interview for "Voice of America" from Albania - has been visiting him for several days due to the earthquake.
"Our help from the US is a testament to who we are," he said. We never forget our homeland, we will never forget our motherland - said Mr. Gjonaj.
The well - known activist of the Albanian - American community said that he was greatly affected by the severe sightings and consequences on people and objects caused by the earthquake.
"We will never forget those deadly images. Then there was a huge loss of wealth and homes. All these families need help, a shelter,” said Gjonaj.
He emphasized that the most immediate task is to overcome children's trauma. They are the most damaged and returning them to normal is the hardest job.
“Life in Albania has changed after this earthquake. Well done to those Albanians who donate funds in the US and other countries. Aid needs to be as long as the need for subsidiary funds will be too long in terms of time." Mr Gjonaj told Voice of America.
