33 suspects have been arrested just in the province of Ankara. These people are Iraqis, including two Syrians and a Moroccan. Many other IS terrorists have been captured in Batman, Kayseri and Adana provinces.
This sweeping action across Turkey has called for a major commitment of police forces. Just in the Batman action, in the southeast of the country about 400 policemen took part in the action. Since last week, Turkish police have arrested 20 IS suspects in Istanbul in a wide-ranging action. Since New Year's Eve 2017 at the Reina nightclub, police have been focusing on the pursuit of terrorists. At Reina's New Year's Eve, 39 people has been killed. IS accepted responsibility for the Istanbul assassination.
Turkey has in recent months stepped up efforts to deport even IS militias and their supporters to their countries of origin. Even German IS militias will have to return to Germany. Just before Christmas, Turkey expelled in Germany a suspected IS man.
The government in Ankara accuses European countries such as the UK and the Netherlands of fleeing of the responsibility by stripping IS militias of citizenship and refusing to return them. Turkish Interior Minister Süleyman Soylu stated recently that Turkey "is not a hotel for any Daesh member". In Arabic, the term "Daesh" is used for the ISIS terrorist organization.
