Prime Minister Zaev says the coalition partner's act is being reviewed within the organs of his party, the Social Democratic Union of Macedonia, and that they will decide this week whether or not to break the DUI coalition.
"We will talk to the coalition partners and see the explanations. But as I said yesterday, this is a very illogical message from our partner. We've talked about why a constituency is needed. We dare not even listen to the voice of the smaller parties. These amendments signal that they want to block the process. This is how democracy is blocked in the decision-making process."
But vice. Prime Minister Bujar Osmani does not even question the coalition.
According to him, there are enough arguments that one constituency damages mostly the Albanians, as they risk losing two MPs.
“Of course these days there will be meetings, conversations. We will present these arguments. This issue should not be decided in the context of cross-party relations with either the opposition or the coalition partner. This is a fundamental issue of our attitude towards an electoral unit and the electoral model, and the Albanian interest here."
The smaller parties are thought to benefit the most from a single constituency.
