Albania assumes the OSCE chairmanship since January 1st

Since January 1, Albania has taken over the OSCE chairmanship. The world's largest security organization specializing in human rights, freedom of speech and elections has 57 member countries.

Gent Cakaj, the acting Foreign Minister, had earlier considered this a very important event, noting that Albania enjoys full capacity to address the priorities of its presidency.

These will be: Conflict prevention and resolution, with a particular focus on the crisis in and around Ukraine, the fight against corruption, environmental protection, fundamental human freedoms and the promotion of tolerance as well as youth.

The political conflict in Albania had raised doubts about whether the OSCE would allow Albania to take the chairmanship.
