Appreciated all over the world, honored with the highest command of France, Knight, Officer and Commander of the Legion of Honor, Kadare has made the role of his work in Albanian culture not just irreplaceable. The Academy of Sciences and the National Center for Book and Reading have launched a formal request for Nobel prizes for his candidacy.

By Decision No. 9, 16.1.2020. The Presidency of the Albanian Academy of Sciences has proposed again to the Royal Academy of Sciences of Sweden, the nomination of the writer and academic Ismail Kadare for the Nobel Prize in Literature. Appreciating not only his esteem at the international level but also his irreplaceable role in Albanian letters. The Albanian language attained the highest degree of expressive power with Kadare's work.

Since 1963 when the General of Dead Army has been published, Kadare has introduced Albanian literature into the highest levels of world literature. Whenever there is talk of the best works of the 20th or 21st century, the General of the Dead Army is one of the 50 best works of the world.
Today Kadare is readable in 50 languages around the world. For years his name has been on the list of nominees for the Nobel Prize in Literature. And he is also regarded as one of the greatest contemporary writers.
