Andrej Plenkovic, Prime Minister of Croatia, the country currently holding the EU Presidency, stated during the World Economic Forum in Davos that he hopes that the integration process for Albania and North Macedonia would be unblocked during the Zagreb Summit.

Plenkovic stressed that during the Croatian presidency, there will be a special focus on Southeast European countries because the integration of these countries into the EU is not a priority for the union.

He made such a statement as he spoke to Croatian journalists attending the summit in Switzerland.

"I am trying to calibrate the expectations of all the neighboring countries for the Croatian Presidency. It is good that Croatia is focusing on Southeast European countries. I doubt that if any other country had the Presidency now, this would be the main topic,” said the head of the Croatian government.

He further stated that he hopes that during the EU Presidency the relations between the Balkan countries will be more dynamic with the EU.

“There are high expectations for the May Zagreb Summit. It will be an opportunity and I hope that the situation for Albania and North Macedonia is unblocked," Plenkovic concluded.
