The incident happened in the backyard of his home in Leposavic, one of the Serb-majority municipalities in North Kosovo.
Police did not provide further details about the perpetrators or possible motives of the incident since the prosecution is being treated as "causing general danger".
Slvako Simic was elected deputy speaker of the Kosovo parliament on December 26th.
He had recently been appointed by Belgrade as chairman of the so-called "Kosovo Mitrovica Administrative District", a parallel Serb institution.
Kosovo Parliament Speaker Glauk Konjufca condemned the incident. In a statement, Mr Konjufca said "Such criminal acts, endangering the lives of senior state officials and destroying the property of Kosovo citizens, constitute serious violations of law and order and as such are punishable". He has called on the law and order authorities to take all necessary action to speed up the case and to bring its perpetrators to legal accountability.
The head of the office for Kosovo in the Serbian government, Marko Djuric, described the incident as "a cowardly act by those who believe that in this way they can silence the will of the Serbian people in Kosovo".
The head of the European Union Office in Kosovo, Natalya Apostolova, was concerned about reports of the attack on the property of the deputy speaker of the Kosovo parliament.
