Kosovo police, on January 13, arrested two Russian nationals - a man and a woman - in North Kosovo.

They were arrested on suspicion of illegally crossing the border between Serbia and Kosovo.

As reported in the police announcement, they were traveling in a vehicle with Montenegrin license plates.

By order of the prosecutor, the Russian nationals were detained and their car confiscated.

The event took place in the municipality of Leposavic.

Kosovo Police did not provide further details.

What does the Prosecution say?

Mitrovica Basic Prosecutor Slobodan Bakic told to media that the Russian citizens initially tried to cross the Jarinje border crossing to enter Kosovo, but returned back due to a lack of visas.

Russian nationals are Egor Igorevic (Igor Krasikov) and Marina Vladimirovna Krasikova.

"The two Russian nationals tried to enter the territory of Kosovo but did not qualify for it because they did not have a visa and a residence permit - the conditions of staying in Kosovo. Then, they used an alternative route in the village of Sharpel, and tried to cross illegally the border. They were detained by a patrol and prosecuted. I have imposed 24-hour detention. We are working on the case and they are likely to appear before a judge in the afternoon," Bakic said.

He added that at the time of the arrest, there were no authorized translators who could speak to Russian nationals. But, according to him, the translator will be provided today (January 14th) in order to find out where they left off and what was the reason for entering Kosovo.

Bakic confirmed that the Russian nationals were in a vehicle with Cetinje license plates in Montenegro, and had rented the same in Budva.
