France gives up on blocking negotiations with Tirana and Skopje, Macron's adviser said
 Beaune and Macron
Clement Beaune, the European adviser to the French president, said in an interview with the German daily Frankfurter Allgemeine Zeitung that Paris would step down from blocking accession negotiations with Albania and North Macedonia.

"After the UK leaves the EU, France wants to focus more on the East," he said.

"After Brexit it is more important than ever to overcome disagreements within the EU and focus on what connects us," Beaune added.

In this optics, Macron begins his visit to Poland today.

"This will happen as soon as the EU enlargement reform plans are agreed soon," Beaune said.

"We will be against the fact that North Macedonia and Albania are treated separately. This would be contrary to our desire to stimulate stability in the region," he said among other things.
