At the conclusion of his meeting in Tirana with Acting Foreign Minister Gent Cakaj, the Turkish Foreign Minister Mevlüt Çavuşoğlu repeatedly stressed that the Feto terrorist organization is not only a threat to Turkey wherever its members are. He stated that he had explained this to the Albanian authorities and would do so in his meeting with Prime Minister Edi Rama, underlining that Turkey does not want Albania to be a security port for FETO members.
He said there were no exact figures for their numbers in Albania, but that there should be several hundred for whom Turkey expects their return. Minister Cavusoglu, expressed his gratitude to Albania for what he has done and understands that it is not easy, but these are steps that need to be taken for the future, he said.
Earlier this year, Albanian authorities expelled, within hours, a Turkish national who was considered part of the Gülen Movement. As soon as he got out of prison, Harun Celik has been sent to the airport, without even having time to appeal the deportation decision, as required by Albanian law.
Another Turkish national, arrested under the same conditions as Çelik, has already made a written request for asylum in Albania, as he says is considered a part of the Gulen movement in Turkey and consequently he is in danger in Turkey.
