Mevlüt Çavuşoğlu and Gent Cakaj signing the agreements in Tirana |
"Sustainable relations between our two countries are rooted not only in historical ties but also well-established in the field of intensive bilateral interaction, constructive cooperation in international organizations and sustainable partnership in NATO.
The support offered by Turkey in one of the darkest hours of Albania's history will be long remembered. But nature did not spare Turkey either. I express my condolences for the lives lost in the earthquake. Turkey continues to be one of the main contributors and supporters of Albania.
We also are aware of Turkey's security threats at its borders, but also that has sheltered millions of Syrian refugees. It is an overall contribution to European security. We have also signed today three documents or agreements.
Agreement on "Mutual Recognition and Exchange of Driving Permits", which will facilitate movement and eliminate administrative and bureaucratic barriers to the use of driving licenses between Albania and Turkey.
Second, the Memorandum of Understanding between the Diplomatic Academies for the Exchange of Diplomats, which will serve to enhance professional capacity and increase the opportunities for exchange of experiences between the two countries.
Thirdly, the 'joint statement' between the two ministries that will serve to boost efforts and co-ordinate attitudes within international organizations in the fight against organized crime, illegal trafficking, extreme violence, and terrorism," said Cakaj.
Only a year ago, Greece recognized Albanian driving licenses but the agreement has been approved by the Greek Parliament in January this year. The only thing left for the new agreement is for the Albanian and Turkish parliament to pass it.
