Albanian killer managed to escape extradition from England as he committed murder 23 years ago

An Albanian sentenced in absentia to 23 years in prison managed to avoid the extradition from England.

Top Channel reports referring to the British media reports that the extradition court in London has decided not to extradite Arjan Hoxhaj.

The man from the city of Fier, 50, one of the most wanted Albanians by Interpol, has secretly been hiding for 24 years, according to Top Channel

The extradition judge Tan Ikram said that if he allowed his extradition then we would be facing human rights violations after Hoxha was convicted in absentia 20 years ago.

The Attorneys of the killer argued to the court that his sentence had already been prescribed under Albanian law.

The argument was accepted by the court, releasing Arjan Hoxhaj, convicted in absentia by the Albanian court of killing Ramdan Bregu and wounding Nefail Bregu in a village in Fier in 1995.

Immediately after the assassination, Hoxhaj managed to arrive in England seeking asylum with a false identity as a Kosovo War refugee.

While since his true identity has been revealed the British immigration authorities have launched a procedure of deprivation of citizenship and expulsion from England.

Same as Arjan Hoxhaj, many other Albanians who are hiding in England can escape extradition after crimes and convictions were handed down 20 years ago. Under such conditions, using the punishment prediction argument provided for in Albanian legislation, they will block any possible extradition.
